Offshore oil rig entry-level oil rig jobs are demanding, hard work. You will work for two or three weeks in a row and then be off for the same number of weeks. You typically will work twelve hours a day, seven days a week. That means that your roustabout salary will be rich with overtime roustabout pay.

Your work duties will include loading and unloading supplies, and equipment, assembling and disassembling equipment, and moving it around on the oil rig. You will be expected to do a great deal of cleaning of the decks and equipment. Equipment repair and maintenance will also be part of your regular roustabout duties.

You will spend most of your time working outdoors. It doesn’t matter whether it is sweltering hot, pouring freezing rain, or anything in between, you will be expected to continue working regardless of all but direct-hit hurricane conditions. The work is dirty, hard, and sometimes dangerous.

In return you will be fed well, housed comfortably, and paid much better than the average college graduate who works fifty weeks out of the year while you only work six months. You’ll probably get better fringe benefits that nearly all other corporate positions offer.

Having a college degree is not an asset when looking for roustabout job vacancies. You do need a high school diploma or GED. Previous manual labor experience is good, and mechanical skills such as welding, and experience with using a variety of hand tools are excellent.

Roustabout employment opportunities are not for sissies or drug addicts. If you are drug-free, intend on staying that way, and enjoy physical exertion outdoors, then being a roustabout may be perfect for you.
